  1. Adam Gregory Pergament

Adam Gregory Pergament (aka Flowpoetry), a three-time finalist for Best Artist (Other) in the Annual Madison WI Area Music Awards, is a performer who has bridged the gap between poetry and music. He has performed publicly over 700 times in the USA with Rock and Roll bands, Jazz musicians, and as a solo poet. In 2009 he was a finalist for the MNSWA "Urban Griot" International/National Performer of the year alongside other poets such as Leonard Cohen and Saul Williams.

His current projects include Venice Gas House Trolley (Cerebral Groovalicious Existential Sacred Fusion Rock) and Rock and Fire Flowpoetry (spoken word with vocal effects and loops). From 2006-2008, he led and taught Chime Collective Big Band weekly improvised free flow musical and poetic workshops at The Madison WI Center For Creative And Cultural Arts. He was also the first ever "Poet-In-Residence" at the King Club (voted Madison, WI's #1 nightclub in 2007).

In previous incarnations, Flowpoetry has played catcher for the University of Minnesota baseball team, spent five years backpacking throughout Asia and India, earned a Master of Arts Degree in Languages and Cultures of Asia and studied for seven years in the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Buddhist Studies Ph.D program.

He has performed with such notables as Hanah Jon Taylor (Chicago's Artists For The Advancement of Creative Music) and Vincent Davis (Roscoe Mitchell Quartet) and Clyde Stubblefield (James Brown's Original Funky Drummer). He has opened shows for The Steve Kimock Band, Cornmeal, Groovatron, Buck 65, Claude Coleman, Jr of Ween. He has also appeared on festival billings with The Jerry Garcia Band and Indigenous.

  2. Tim Peeters

Tim Peeters has been fortunate to play for and share amazing moments with people from all over America during his 20 year career in music.

Upon graduating from University of Wisconsin - River Falls with a degree in Music Performance, Tim continued his study of bass with David Stallsmith (Milwaukee Symphony), Chuck Ledvina (Lawrence Conservatory), Jim Anton (Johnny Lang, Shannon Curfman, Mandy Moore), and most notably Richard Davis (Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy).

In 2004 Tim and The Prole won Best Latin Group at the Madison Area Music Awards. The Prole was a finalist again in 2005. Tim has had the opportunity to share the stage with Robin Trower, Roger Trout, Shamekia Copeland, Roger Cline & the Peacemakers, Hermans Hermits, Ronnie Baker Brooks, America, Alice Cooper, The B52's, Night Ranger, Stephen Stills, Koko Taylor, Brian Lee, Son Seals, and Bernard Allison. In 2006, Madison radio station Triple M put together a Madison area based tribute to the 40th anniversary to Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Band. Tim's group, Marvins Garden contributed an acoustic version of "Good Morning, Good Morning". The track became a staple part of Triple M's morning programming.

In his spare time Tim enjoys cooking, softball, and his side project, Black Eyed Angels (a drum and bass hard rock duo).

  3. Josh Pultorak

Josh Pultorak brings a rich variety of influences to his drumset playing for VGHT. Perhaps the most notable of which comes from his extensive study of world percussion.

As an undergraduate at Miami University, he was the drumset player for the school's widely respected Trinidadian-inspired steel band, for which he participated in the recording of two albums and performed on numerous occasions with world-wide acclaimed jazz pan players Andy Narell and Liam Teague.

Since then he's studied under a number of master percussionists learning the subtleties of Brazilian percussion and is an active participant in a number of local samba and maracatu ensembles in Madison, WI.

When he's not laying down grooves for VGHT, he's working toward his PhD in Zoology at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

  4. Kevin Knapp

Kevin first started playing with VGHT in '08. Playing bass at the time, he and brothers Adam Gregory Pergament and Miguel McQuade waged battle on the stage as an avant-guard poetry post-rock trio. Much experimenting ensued. Kevin currently plays picollo bass and guitar in VGHT.

Kevin has played with Marques Bovre, John Frazier, Bedhed and Blondy, Kevin Ball and the Busters, Billy and Amanda Contreras, Hamilton Hardin, Ryan Cavanaugh, and some other people worth mentioning I'm sure.

In the fall of '09, Kevin moved to Nashville, TN where he lived as a freelance musician until moving back to Madison in '12.

  5. Dr. Beats

Dr Beats is a mercurial presence in the band and while no-one can ever know when the good doctor will be "in", you just might catch him joining in at an up-coming VGHT show! An ever-evolving master of the percussive arts, Dr Beats provides the best in massive, sequential rhythmic onslaughts. A graduate of Beat U in Metronomics, Dr Beats specializes in, Flams, Para-Diddles, 3/2 son clave, upbeats and never playing on the 1.

When taking time off of drums, Dr Beats enjoys playing drums.

Dr. Beats comes from a background of Drum Corps and Brazilian Samba School as well as speed metal and New Orleans Brass Band Traditions.

Recently he has delved into the realm of computer music and DJ-ing. Dr Beats produces Dub-Step and world grooves alongside real time video and light sequencing, for the creation of new realms of personal enjoyment.

In his free time Dr Beats enjoys climbing on rocks, doing handstands, and planning for impending Armageddon. His influences include, The Mars Volta, Shpongle, John Cage, Pretty Lights, and Led Zepplin to name a few. Also anything that has ever made noise EVER.

Dr Beats hopes to one day live on a tropical island surrounded by beautiful ladies and synthesizers. Oh and Drums, lots of Drums.

Venice Gas House Trolley is the sound of a new creative generation that believes imagination is liberation. The band is jazzy, jammy, funky, and tribal with spoken word poetry and heavy grooves. VGHT's music is packed with psychedelic soundscapes and boundary exploring arrangements that whimsically deviate from the norm yet still provide enough hooks and thick grooves to keep audience's heads bobbing and feet moving.

Paving the way for a whole new genre of music, VGHT mangles musical boundaries and interlaces shared storytelling and poetic vibration into a communal and collective consciousness that unifies the ancient and future as one. The Trolley's appearances include festivals such as The Tall Tree Lake Music Festival (Goreville, IL), The Muddy River Jam Fest (Woodstown, NJ), The Overgrown Music & Arts Festival (Belmont, NY), The Michigan Peace Fest (Lacota, MI), The 40th Annual Midwest Harvest Fest (Madison, WI) and over 300 performances from Wisconsin to New York City.

Venice Gas House Trolley has been praised by the media and fans alike for their new approach to words and intense yet chilled psychedelic jam, and has held the position as the #1 Jam Band in Madison, WI on ReverbNation since May of 2011. VGHT was also voted as one of the top 3 experimental music groups in Madison's Isthmus Newspaper's "Reader's Favorites" poll. Madison newspapers (The Capitol Times and The Onion AV Club, to name a few) have selected VGHT as the Critic's Choice for music event of the evening more than 20 times. The band was recently signed to The Homegrown Music Network national distribution community of bands (the roster includes Keller Williams, Lotus, and STS9 among many others). The Trolley is groovin' down the tracks!

Venice Gas House Trolley features Flowpoetry, a finalist for the MNSWA "Urban Griot" International/National Performer of the Year and a three-time Madison Area Music Awards finalist. VGHT encapsulates the dirty 1960s rock of Jefferson Airplane, the slinky but aggressive and funky grooves of Claypool, the eccentric and experimental sounds of Zappa, the eclectic jam and fun attitude of Phish, the rockin' hip-hop and reggae beats of 311, and the flowin' words of Tom Waits. Through this creative mix, the band has released four full length domestic CDs and has placed tracks on British compilations.
